
2005-2006 Season Recap
On the women's indoor track team, senior Jess Minty earned All-America honors for the second straight year in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships at the national meet in Minnesota and won the New England Division III title at that distance. At the nationals Minty placed eighth in the 800 meters, while junior Anna King finished ninth in the mile, one spot away from All-America honors. Senior Liz Turner and junior Karen Prisby both had success in the 5,000 meters for head coach Deb Aitken.
2005-2006 Season Preview
In its 27-year history the Colby women’s track and field team has experienced great success, producing 56 All-Americans and 100 NCAA national qualifiers. The team, whose roster numbers approximately 35 to 45 members, competes in 21 events and has a coaching staff of six led by Deb Aitken.
The 2005 indoor squad enjoyed a very successful season, placing sixth at the New England Division III Championship. Junior Jess Minty finished second in the 800-meter run in her second trip to the NCAA Division III Championships and earned her first All-America honor. First-year Anna King also made the trip to nationals and finished 11th in the 1,500-meter run.
The 2006 team will rely on both a number of returning letter winners and a large and talented group of first-year students to maintain Colby’s competitive edge. Emphasis is put on team balance and the individual development of each team member. Individual as well as team goals are established for each season, and plans are established to ensure that all attainable goals are reached.
