Xavier Garcia '05 led a young and talented 2002 Colby track and field team as he eclipsed freshman records in the 400 (48.73), 400IH (54.74), and triple jump (46'8.25"). Xavier also teamed-up with Pat Harner '05, Ryan Hollett '05, and Lee Carlson '03 to establish a new Colby 4x100 meter relay record of 42.08, while winning state, NESCAC, and New England Division III titles. Lee Rankin '03, a three-time NCAA participant in the 35-pound weight, leads Colby's throwers and hammer throws with marks of 55'8" and 180'5" respectively. Rankin will be a source of inspiration for our throwers in 2003.

Eric Reinauer '04, Steve Creighton '03, Garcia, and Rich Downing '04, joined forces to win the distance medley relay at the 2002 New England Division III indoor championships. Reinauer, Creighton, and Downing are joined by Nat Brown '04 in the steeplechase and Justin Sukiennik '03 in the 10K to form the nucleus of our middle distance and distance running team. Collectively, these runners, jumpers, and throwers have proven to be excellent training partners for their teammates while gaining team strength and unity from each other's success. Colby's team placed fifth and seventh respectively, in the very competitive 2002 NESCAC and New England Division III spring championships.

Colby's male and female track and field athletes will get a jump on the 2003 outdoor season during the annual spring trip to San Diego, Calif.
