2006 Season Recap

Jess Minty and Anna King each qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship meet. Minty finished ninth in the 10,000 meters and King was 10th in the 3,000 steeplechase.

Minty won the 10,000 meters at the NESCAC Championships, Melissa Cianciolo was second in the javelin and King placed third in the steeplechase. Minty also was second in the 1,500 meters at the New England Division III Championship meet, while Hillary Easter took third in the steeplechase.

The outdoor team won the Bates Invitational and placed third at the Aloha Relays at Bowdoin. The team went on to place seventh at the NESCAC Championship and was 10th at the New England Division III Championship. Thirty of Colby’s 46 team members had personal-record performances and school records were broken in the 1,500-meter run and a 3,200-meter relay.

2006 Season Preview

In its 27-year history the Colby women's track and field team has experienced great success, producing 56 All-Americans and 100 NCAA national qualifiers. The team, whose roster numbers approximately 35 to 45 members, competes in 21 events and has a coaching staff of six led by Deb Aitken.

The outdoor season saw senior Karina Johnson and first-year runner Anna King make the trip to national competition at Wartburg College in Iowa. King earned All-America honors in her first year by placing seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Johnson was seeded 19th and finished 12th in the 10,000-meter run.

The outdoor team won its four-team home meet and placed second at the Aloha Relays at Bowdoin. The team went on to place fourth at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Colby and was 11th at the New England Division III Championship.

The 2006 team will rely on both a number of returning letter winners and a large and talented group of first-year students to maintain Colby's competitive edge. Emphasis is put on team balance and the individual development of each team member. Individual as well as team goals are established for each season, and plans are established to ensure that all attainable goals are reached.
