FARMINGTON, Maine -- The Colby College Women's Volleyball team competed in the two-day Maine State Championships at Farmington this weekend, taking second in the state. The White Mules defeated Husson College and the University of New England before falling to the Bobcats of Bates College in the finals.

Setter Missy Fiebelkorn (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) and middleback Reagan Carey (Prospect, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) completely dominated the White Mules' sweep of Husson. Fielbelkorn served 19 of the team's 45 points, including six aces, to go along with seven digs and 24 assists. Whenever the Braves did manage to return her serve, Carey was there to clean up, finishing off 16 of her 23 attempted kills.

In the semi-finals, Colby battled the Nor'Easters of UNE, who sported a 20-14 record coming into the match. The White Mules fell behind quickly, but Carey and Kirsten Stoller (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Plattsburg) combined to give Colby a huge momentum shift when they blocked the Nor'Easter's top hitter, Sherma Webster. The Mules took over from there, winning 30 of the final 39 game points to sweep the match, 3-0. Stoller finished with 11 digs and four blocks, while Randi Martin (Concord, N.H./Concord) added 11 kills. Fiebelkorn served up four more aces and dished out 28 assists.

For the fourth time this season, the White Mules faced off against Bates, this time with the State Championship at stake. The Bobcats won the first game easily, but Colby bounced back with a big victory in the second game. Tied at 1-1, Bates took control, winning the final two games 15-11 to claim the championship. First-year Amanda Cuiffo (Waban, Mass./Newton South) led the White Mules' attack as she notched 18 kills, 13 digs and three aces. Fiebelkorn recorded 22 assists and five aces to go along with 11 digs, while Carey struck for nine kills and five blocks.

For their remarkable efforts, Fiebelkorn, Carey and Cuiffo were named to the All-State First Team, taking three of the six available spots. Cuiffo also garnered the Maine State Rookie of the Year Award for her incredible season. Stoller and Martin were selected to the All-Tournament First Team to round out a host of White Mule honors.

Colby, whose record now stands at 13-15, will host the two-day New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament this coming weekend. The tourney, which features all 11 NESCAC schools, will begin Friday night in Wadsworth Gymnasium.
