FORT MYERS, Fla. --- Colby College finished 7-5 overall on its spring break trip to Florida and won for the fourth straight time with a doubleheader sweep of Plymouth State in non-conference baseball Saturday.
Nate Sugarbaker (Milton, Mass.) earned his second win of the season and Mike Mastrocola (Southbury, Conn.) stayed hot with three hits (including a triple) and four RBI in a 17-2 win in the opener. Brendan Gallagher (Dublin, N.H.) smacked a three-run home run and Dakota Rabbitt (Rehoboth, Mass.) earned the pitching win in the Mules' 12-6 nightcap victory.
Sugarbaker and reliever Mark Nelson (Walpole, Mass.) combined on a two-hitter in the first game. Sugarbaker struck out eight and walked four in five innings of work. Nelson did not allow a run over the final two innings.
Taro Gold (Belmont, Mass.) joined Mastrocola with three hits, including two doubles and two RBI. Kevin Galvin (Portsmouth, R.I.) added a double among his two hits and drove in a pair, while Nik Atsalis (West Hyannis Port, Mass.) and Robb Arndt (Yarmouth, Maine) each had two hits and one RBI.
The score was tied 2-2 after the first inning of the opening game. The Mules went ahead for good with four runs in the second and added three more in the fourth inning.
Gallagher, who had two hits, had his home run in a six-run fourth inning to help give the Mules a 9-0 lead. Jason Buco (Methuen, Mass.) had a double among his three hits and drove in a run, while Arndt also had three hits. Mastrocola finished with two hits (double) and three RBI, Gold had one double among his two hits and drove in one run, and Nathan Ellis (Milton, Mass.) had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.
Rabbitt worked six innings and struck out two.
