ORONO, Maine --- The Colby College pitching staff had a solid day against Division I University of Maine on Tuesday in a 5-1 non-conference loss at Mahaney Diamond.
The Mules drop to 9-10 overall heading into Wednesday's 4 p.m. home game with University of Southern Maine. The contest will be Webcast at http://www.firstteambroadcasting.com/events/2012/04/11/baseball-colby-vs-usm/

Colby starter Connor Sullivan (Hamilton, Mass.) pitched six innings, struck out one, allowed just one walk, and gave up four earned runs. Luke Geoghegan (Boston, Mass.), Abhi Chandel (Columbus, N.J.), and Brady Hesslein (Newton, Mass.) went the final two innings for the Mules and gave up no earned runs and combined for one strikeout and no walks.
Maine (17-14 overall) had just one extra-base hit in the game, a double in the eighth inning. The Black Bears had single runs in the opening two innings, the first inning run coming after Colby got the first two outs.
The Mules made it a 2-1 game with a lone run in the top of the third inning. Nik Atsalis (West Hyannis Port, Mass.) had a one-out single and stole second base. After a walk to Robb Arndt (Yarmouth, Maine), the Mules pulled a double steal to get runners to second and third. Devlin McConnell (Merion Station, Pa.) drove in Atsalis with an RBI groundout.
The Mules had singles in the game from Jason Buco (Methuen, Mass.), Atsalis, Brendan Gallagher (Dublin, N.H.), Luke Duncklee (Augusta, Maine), Arndt, and Kevin Galvin (Portsmouth, R.I.). Arndt also had two of Colby's three walks, while Gallagher was hit by two pitches.
Maine added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning and had an unearned run in the eighth.
