STANDISH, Maine --- Colby College's Brady Hesslein worked nearly seven innings and allowed just three earned runs to the top team in New England Division III baseball as the Mules fell 4-2 to St. Joseph's College on Friday in a non-conference game.
 
Hesslein had two strikeouts and allowed no walks in 6 2/3 innings of work. Luke Geoghegan had one strikeout and no walks in 1 1/3 innings of relief work
 
The Mules drop to 7-9 overall heading into a noon doubleheader at Brandeis on Saturday. St. Joseph's moved to 19-2 overall.
 
The Monks scored two runs in the first inning and added the other two runs in the fourth. Colby had single runs in the fourth inning and eighth inning.
 
Robb Arndt had two hits and scored both runs for Colby, while Jason Buco and Nik Atsalis also had two hits apiece. Brendan Gallagher had one hit and walked once.
 
Brandon Nieuw had an RBI single in the fourth inning to score Arndt. In the eighth inning, Arndt reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a walk by Gallagher, took third on a groundout by Taro Gold, and scored when Devin McConnell reached first base on an error by the third baseman.
