WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Mike Mastrocola (Southbury, Conn.), Robb Arndt (Yarmouth, Maine), and Jason Buco (Methuen, Mass.) were each named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference Baseball All-Conference Team on Wednesday.
Since 2001 when the NESCAC started a playoff system, Colby has never had more than one player in one year on the all-conference team.
Mastrocola, a senior third baseman, earned first team honors. Arndt, a senior first baseman, and first-year outfielder Buco were both selected to the second team. Mastrocola joins Tom Salemy '07 (2007), Andrew Carr '07 (2006), Eric Roy '04 (2003), and Jon Lord '02 (2001) as Colby's first-team selections since 2001.
Mastrocola raised his batting average every season at Colby, including a 60-point jump to a team-best .390 this year. He also had 25 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, two homers, a team-best 34 RBI, a .530 slugging percentage, and a .453 on-base percentage. Mastrocola, who was on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week earlier this year, finished his career at Colby with 120 hits, a .333 batting average, 74 runs scored, and 87 RBI.
Arndt had a terrific defensive season at first base, committing just one error in 294 chances for a .997 fielding percentage. He had only seven errors in his four years with the Mules and had just four in the past two years when he was the full-time first baseman. Arndt hit more than .300 in all four seasons and was the only Mule to start all 33 games this year. He batted .336 and led Colby in both runs scored (27) and walks (17). Arndt, who had a .430 on-base percentage this year, has 83 career hits, 53 runs, 43 RBI, and a .990 fielding percentage.
Buco was second to Mastrocola in batting average (.380) and second to Arndt in walks (15). He led the Mules in home runs (5), stolen bases (14-for-16), slugging percentage (.646), and on-base percentage (.474). Buco also had 24 runs scored and struck out just eight times compared to his 15 walks.
Colby finished the season at 16-17 overall, including a 15-10 record in away and neutral site games.
