Men's crew wins event at Lowell, women second

LOWELL, Mass. --- The Colby College men's varsity 8 was a winner against Coast Guard on Saturday and the women took second place in a race of four boats.
 
The Colby men finished in 6 minutes, 12.35 seconds to beat Coast Guard by 5.49 seconds. A second Coast Guard boat took third place.
 
Coast Guard won the women's varsity 8 in 6:49.8 and was followed by Colby (7:07.6), Lowell (7:17.2), and Franklin Pierce (8:05.2).
 
The second men's varsity 8 crew also won in 6:18 to take a convincing win against Coast Guard (6:53). Meanwhile, the second varsity 8 women's race went to Coast Guard in 7:03.8, another Coast Guard boat took second, and Colby was third with a 7:31.9.
 
The women's varsity 4 boat was second in a field of six with a time of 8:12 to finish behind Lowell (8:04.4) and in front of a second Lowell boat, Coast Guard, Franklin Pierce, and Mass.-Maritime.
 
The men's varsity 4 crew took fourth out of five boats.
 
The men's novice 4 boat took second in a field of five with a time of 7:22. Coast Guard won the race in 7:09, while the Mules beat Lowell, a second Coast Guard boat, and Mass.-Maritime.
