SIDNEY, Maine --- After early morning delays because of high winds, the Colby College crews finally were able to race on Messalonskee Lake late Saturday afternoon against University of New Hampshire.

The varsity 8 races and the men's third varsity 8 were the typical 2,000-meter races, but the other two events were cut to 1,500 meters because of a steady, strong cross wind.

UNH won the men's varsity 8 race in a time of 6 minutes, 20.6 seconds to Colby's clocking of 6:26.8. UNH also won the second varsity 8 race (4:51.8 to 4:55.1) and the third (7:02.6 to 7:21.0).

In women's varsity 8 competition, two UNH boats (7:15.8 and 7:28.2) finished 1-2 ahead of the Mules (7:36.9). UNH also won the third varsity 8 event in 5:43.6, Colby was second in 5:47.9, and a second UNH boat took third (5:53.4).
