Four Colby players make All-NESCAC for football

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's John Gilboy (Saco, Maine), Spenser Merwin (Falls Village, Conn.), Ryan Veillette (Westfield, Mass.), and Connor Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) were all named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference Football All-Conference Team on Thursday.
 
All four Colby players earned second team honors, with Veillette on defense for the second straight year. Gilboy, Merwin, and Walsh were on the second team offense.
 
Gilboy, a junior right guard, was a force on the offensive line. He helped the Mules finish fourth in the conference in passing offense (191.5 per game) and sixth in total offense at 311.8 yards per contest.
 
Merwin, a senior tight end, finished his career with 68 catches for 828 yards and seven touchdowns in three seasons of play. He averaged 14.4 yards per catch this year and had a 12.2 average over his career. Merwin had 41 catches for 424 yards and two touchdowns this past season. He also had his first career passing touchdown.
 
Veillette, a defensive end, was third in the NESCAC in sacks (5.5) and finished sixth on the team in total tackles with 38. He has 85 career tackles after three seasons and 11 sacks in two years. Veillette has 15.5 tackles for loss after his junior season.
 
Walsh finished his career with 2,392 career all-purpose yards. He had 344 rushing yards, 138 catches for 1,282 yards, 677 yards in kickoff returns, and 89 yards in punt returns. He had 41 catches for 424 yards and two touchdowns this past season. Walsh also rushed for one score and had two passing touchdowns.
 
Colby finished the season at 3-5 overall.
