Field hockey drops league game at Amherst

AMHERST, Mass --- The Colby College field hockey team played a nationally-ranked opponent for the fifth Saturday in a row, this time falling 6-0 at 15th-ranked Amherst College in NESCAC play.
 
Amherst improved to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Mules fall to 4-7 overall and 0-7 in the league. Colby will play at Hamilton College on Sunday at noon.
 
The Jeffs, who had a 29-3 shot advantage and a 19-3 margin in penalty corners, led 4-0 at intermission. Alex Philie scored the first of her two goals at 8:35 for the game-winning score. Philie and Katie McMahon both had two goals and one assist for the winners.
 
Michelle Burt played about 45 minutes and made 12 saves for Colby. Sarah Evans played the final 25:08 and made two stops without allowing a score.
