CLINTON, N.Y. --- The Colby College field hockey team converted on two of five penalty corner attempts and the Mules earned their first New England Small College Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 2-1 win against Hamilton College on Sunday.
The Mules move to 5-7 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Colby must win its final two games for a chance at making the NESCAC playoffs. The Mules entertain Williams College (3-5 NESCAC) in a big game this Saturday at 11 a.m. Colby closes out the regular season with an away game at Bates College next Wednesday.
The Mules scored with no time left in the first half after drawing a penalty corner. Courtney Erskine scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Caitlin Murray.
Hamilton (0-12 overall, 0-9 NESCAC) scored quickly in the second half when Aubrey Coon tallied at 38:39 from Katey Hopper.
Murray scored her fourth goal of the season and had the game-winning goal at 43:26 off an assist from Erskine on the second penalty corner goal.
Colby goaltender Michelle Burt stopped three shots, while Hamilton keeper Victoria Trentini made 12 saves. Burt reached 101 saves on the season.
The Mules had a 27-5 shot advantage and a 5-2 margin in penalty corners.
