WATERVILLE, Maine --- Megan Fortier (Falmouth, Maine) scored 9:32 into the second half to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Colby College field hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference win over University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday at Bill Alfond Field.
The Mules, who had a 28-2 shot advantage, move to 1-2 overall. Maine-Farmington falls to 1-3 on the season.
All three goals came off penalty corners, with Colby's Caitlin Murray (Chatham, N.J.) getting the first one off assists from Kellie Walsh (Andover, Mass.) and Lucy Gerrity (Cumberland, Maine). Gerrity struck the corner, Walsh did the stop, and Murray ripped a hard shot to the right corner just 5:49 into play.
Chelsea Morley (York, Maine) answered back for UMF about seven minutes later on a corner. Morley ripped a shot from the right side off assists from Emma Daniel (Acton, Mass.) and Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine).
Natalie Fischer (Freeland, Md.) picked up the assist on Colby's game-winning goal. Her blast was deflected by Fortier, who scored her second goal of the young season.
Michelle Burt (Woodbridge, Conn.) played the first half and first-year Sarah Evans (Cohasset, Mass.) played the second half in combining for no saves. UMF keeper Curran Brierley (East Hampton, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots.
