2009 Season Outlook
The Colby College co-ed golf team got the 2009 season off to a solid start with two victories at the Waterville Country Club. The Mules, under head coach Jim Tortorella, won the Colby Invitational
and the Colby Classic. Captains Hans Noering '10 and Sam Rouleau '10 join Maureen Dunn '10 as the only seniors on the squad. Noering and Rouleau were both part of the Colby blue squad which won both tourneys. The seniors lead a team where eight of the 13 players are sophomores or younger. Tripp Huber '13, Harry Smith '12, and Taggie Martin '13 were the other players on the winning Colby blue squad at the invitational Saturday. Tom Lampert '12 joined those five players to help the blue team win the Colby Classic the next day. Lampert, Pete Gabranski '13, John Moriarty '11, Sanjay Bahl '12, and Peter Zink '11 were on the Colby white team at the invitational and finished in second place out of six teams. Charlie Diamond '12 returns from last year's squad and Tracey Tomlinson '12 is a newcomer.
The Colby co-ed golf team will have three of the top five golfers returning from a year ago, including senior captain John Wagner. Sam Rouleau '10 and Hans Noering '10 also return as does Maureen Dunn '10. Colby will play three matches at Waterville Country Club, the squad's home course. The Mules open the season with the Colby Invitational (Sept. 6) and also will host the Colby Classic and the Sid Farr Invitational. The team will play eight tourneys, including the NESCAC Championships at Middlebury on Sept. 26-27. |
