WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Chris Hudnut (Chevy Chase, Md.) was named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Rookie of the Year and he was joined on the Maine Division III All-Rookie Team by teammate Patrick Stewart (Bangor, Maine) on Wednesday.
Hudnut led the Mules in scoring and was 15th in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at 12.9 points per contest. He also was 15th in the conference in blocked shots (0.8 per game) and 17th in rebounding (5.3). Hudnut was ninth in conference games in offensive rebounding at nearly two a game.
Hudnut, who missed two games due to illness, was honored three times during the season as the Maine Rookie of the Week. The last time was after scoring 21 points and pulling down a season-best 13 rebounds in the NESCAC quarterfinals against nationally-ranked Amherst College.
Stewart, who also missed two games during the season, was seventh in the NESCAC in rebounding (6.7) and 11th in field goal percentage (.504). Stewart shot .576 in NESCAC games to rank sixth in the league and was 10th in defensive rebounds (4.6) in conference-only games. He was third on Colby in scoring (7.5) and led the Mules in 3-point field goal percentage (.405, 17-for-42) and defensive rebounds (102 total).
