WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Dom Kone (Bucksport/Bucksport,
Maine) won his second national championship in track and field two weeks ago and is now in the latest Sports Illustrated magazine. Kone is featured in the June 11 issue in the Faces in the Crowd section. His headshot and a brief summary of his victory in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships is included. Here is a look at the page on-line: http://sportsillustrated.cnn. Kone, a junior, started an amazing two-plus months of track and field with a national championship in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA indoor meet at Grinnell College in Iowa in mid-March. He fought back after suffering a hamstring injury in the 2011 indoor meet in the championship final of the 55 dash. At Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in California, Kone dominated the 100 with a 10.24 in the championship final. The time was the third-fastest in NCAA Division III history, second-fastest in NCAA meet history, a stadium record, and a school record. Kone also dominated the prelims at the NCAA meet with a 10.39. Kone is spending the summer working with University of Virginia professors on parasite research.
