WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Mallory Young, a 2005 Colby College graduate and the current assistant coach for the Mules’ women’s ice hockey program, has been named interim head coach of the Colby golf team for this fall.

Young and the Mules open the season next Friday at the Maine State Tournament at Val Halla Country Club. Colby will play host to four tourneys at Waterville Country Club and also play at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Qualifier at Wesleyan University.

Former golf and men’s ice hockey head coach Jim Tortorella recently left Colby to take an associate head coach position with the University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team.

Young, who will also provide coverage for the men’s hockey office until a new head coach is named, is entering her third year as assistant coach for women’s ice hockey head coach David Venditti. She also has been assistant ice hockey coach at Williams College, University of Massachusetts at Boston, and New Hampton School.

Senior captain Harry Smith is one of seven returning players on the golf team who saw some action among the top-five last year.
