Stewart, big first half powers Mules to victory

HARTFORD, Conn. --- Patrick Stewart pumped in 18 points and the Colby College men's basketball team had a huge first half in earning a key 74-63 win over Trinity College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.

 
The Mules moved to 5-9 overall and stand at 2-2 in the league. Colby is tied for fifth in the league standings heading into Saturday's 2 p.m. game at Amherst College. Trinity fell to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
 
The Mules led 43-15 at halftime after shooting 61 percent (17-for-28) from the field while holding the Bantams to just 16 percent (4-for-25) shooting.

Trinity actually led 2-0 before Colby went on a 16-0 run behind five points apiece from Stewart and Danny Chase. The Mules led 27-5 after a Chris Hudnut inside basket with 8:36 to intermission. The Bantams did not reach 10 points until there was just 4:07 to play.
 
Colby still led 51-24 in the second half after a Stewart jumper, but Trinity did battle back and cut the margin to 59-45 with 6:51 to play. The Bantams, though, were never able to cut the lead to under 10 points.
 
Stewart was 8-for-11 from the field and added six rebounds, while Chase had 10 points and three assists. Shane Rogers added eight points and nine assists, Sam Willson chipped in nine points, and Connor O'Neil scored seven. Hudnut, Colby's leading scorer, had foul problems and only scored five points in 18 minutes.

Jaquann Starks led Trinity with 16 points.
