Rogers strong for Mules in loss to Amherst

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Shane Rogers (Newburgh, N.Y.) had the best game of his young Colby College basketball career, but fourth-ranked Amherst College stayed unbeaten in league play with an 82-64 win over the Mules on Saturday. 

Rogers finished with 17 points, six assists, and four rebounds off the bench for Colby. He shot 6-for-11 from the field and was 3-for-5 from 3-point range.

David Waller (Tampa, Fla.) and Aaron Toomey (Greensboro, N.C.) both went 4-for-5 from 3-point range for the Lord Jeffs.

Amherst moves to 15-2 overall and 5-0 in New England Small College Athletic Conference play, while the Mules fall to 5-11 and 1-4 in the league.
 
Waller scored Amherst's first nine points of the game on 3-point shots as the Lord Jeffs took an early 12-2 lead on the way to a 44-31 halftime margin. Toomey, who also had game-highs of nine assists and six steals, was 3-for-3 from 3-point range in the opening half. The Lord Jeffs shot 43 percent (9-for-21) from long range.
 
Jeff Holmes (Saunderstown, R.I.) added 15 points and eight boards, Willy Workman (Northampton, Mass.) had 10 points and six assists, and Peter Kaasila (Plaistow, N.H.) had eight points and eight rebounds for Amherst.
 
Eric Beaulieu (Concord, Mass.) shot 7-for-9 from the field for 15 points and Ben Foreman (Los Angeles, Calif.) also had 15 points. Kyle Donovan (Portland, Maine) pulled down eight rebounds and had six points.
