Seniors, O'Neil lift men's basketball to win

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College seniors Kyle Donovan (Portland, Maine), Ben Foreman (Los Angeles, Calif.), Alex Swanson (Lancaster, Pa.), and Eric Beaulieu (Concord, Mass.) combined for 48 points in their final game as the Mules took a 77-67 non-conference men's basketball win over University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
 
Colby finished the season at 7-17 overall, while the Owls fall to 3-16.
 
Donovan was 6-for-8 from the field for 15 points and added five rebounds, Foreman nailed four 3-point shots on the way to 14 points and five assists, Swanson was 5-for-7 from the field in adding 13 points, and Beaulieu had six points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals.
 
First-year guard Connor O'Neil (Freeport, Maine) had a solid all-around game with 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the Mules. Jonathan Kalin (Medford Square, N.J.) tied Foreman for the team-high with five assists and Matt Mignon (Skillman, N.J.) came off the bench with a team-high three steals and five points.
 
UMPI junior center Patrick Manifold (Great Yarmouth, UK) led all scorers and rebounders with 28 points and nine boards. He was 9-for-15 from the field and 9-for-10 from the foul line. Brad Trask (Easton, Maine) and Brennen Moore (Chepachet, R.I.) both had 11 points, while Gerardo Vasquez (Houston, Texas) finished with 10 points.
 
The Owls led 25-24 when Manifold hit a jumper with 5:57 to intermission. The Mules, though, received seven points from Donovan as part of an 11-0 run to take the lead for good at 35-25 with 2:55 to play.
 
The Mules took a 38-29 lead into halftime and then scored the opening nine points of the half on two 3-point shots by Foreman and one from O'Neil for a 49-29 margin. UMPI chipped away at the lead over the final 10 minutes of the game, but never got closer than the 10-point margin at the end of the contest.
