Barry helps men's cross country win own invite

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Tom Barry finished in second place while teammates Alan Ottenstein and Tom O'Donnell finished right behind him to help the Colby College men's cross country team win the Colby Men's Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The Mules finished with a team score of 24 in a field of seven teams.

Maine Maritime Academy's Matt Methot won the five-mile race in 28 minutes, 46 seconds.

Barry finished in 28:55, Ottenstein was at 29:00, and O'Donnell took fourth in 29:03. Sam Crimmins took eighth for the Mules in 29:43 and Dave Murphy was 10th in 29:58. 

Colby, ranked eighth in the New England Region, gave its top seven runners the day off to rest for the Open New England Championships next Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston. 

Jeff Tucker of the Colby Nordic ski team was fifth in 29:30 and Nick Kopf of Thomas College took sixth with a 29:31. Maine Maritime Academy, which finished in second place with a score of 47, received a seventh-place finish from Vijay Kataria in 29:33. Unity College's Taylor Noble was the other runner in the top-10 with a ninth at 29:52.
