WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- Junior captain Brian Desmond finished in 53rd place out of nearly 200 finishers and the Colby College men's cross country team had four first-year runners among their top seven at the Williams College Invitational at Mount Greylock High School on Saturday.
Meanwhile, another group of Colby men's runners competed in a meet at Unity College and earned the team title with eight runners in the top 10.
Desmond finished with a time of 27 minutes, 56.59 seconds over the 8-kilometer course at the Williams meet. Ben Lester finished in 77th place with a 28:42.52, Matthieu Nadeau had a 28:44.72 for 82nd place, Will McCarthy placed 85th with a 28:46.99, Paco DeFrancis came in with a 28:47.65 for 86th place, Charlie Coffman finished in 88th with a 28:54.69, and Jeff Hale was the seventh Colby runner to finish with a 28:55.62 for 89th place.
Corey Park (92nd, 28:56.25), Luke Doherty Munro (97th, 29:00.30), Chris Halladay (104th, 29:12.66, and John Williams (108th, 29:18.88) were other solid finishers.
Colby placed 11th out of 16 teams at the Williams meet.
In the Unity meet, Colby was first with a score of 24 and was followed by Maine Maritime Academy (56), Unity (65), Thomas (80), and Maine-Machias (100).
Will Supple took second place with a 29:16, while Noland Dumont was fourth in 29:58. Seth Gilbane (30:05) took fifth for the Mules and was followed by teammates Sean Madigan (6th, 30:08), David White (7th, 30:10), Chase Hammond (8th, 30:25), and Kevin Clarke (9th, 30:52).
