Men's Cross-Country—2007-08 Season Overview
2011 Season Outlook
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men’s cross country team worried about numbers in the past, but with 41 runners on the 2011 roster the Mules and sixth-year head coach Jared Beers can put that out of their mind.
The Mules have improved their score in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships by 64 points over the past two seasons. Colby had a score of 351 in 2008, lowered the total to 322 in 2009, and last year broke 300 with a score of 287.
Colby went on to take 18th place, the best finish for the Mules since 2007, at the New England Division III Championships.
The Mules lost their top two runners, Ben Cunkelman and Andy Maguire, to graduation. However, Brian Desmond, Tom Letourneau, Chris Halladay, John Williams, Matthieu Nadeau, and Luke Doherty Munro all ran in the top seven at one point last year. Desmond, who is just a junior, will be the captain of the Mules after taking 37th at the Maine State meet a year ago.
Halladay took 41st place in the Maine meet and 69th at the NESCAC Championships, while Williams had the best finish among returnees with a 34th at the state meet. Nadeau took 56th at the Maine event and 73rd at the NESCAC meet, Doherty Munro was 68th at states and 77th at the conference meet, and Letourneau took 78th at the league meet.
The Mules also return Matt Cloherty (42nd at the Maine State meet), Justin Rouse (57th), Dylan Nisky (59th), Mike Langley (61st), and Alex Baier (71st).
Beers has 27 of his 41 runners at sophomore standing or younger. Many of the runners will battle for top spots on the team.
2010 Season Outlook
Men's cross country had improvement in points at both the NESCAC and Maine State meet under fifth-year head coach Jared Beers.
The Mules had a score of 123 at the state meet after a 151 total in 2008. Andy Maguire, who will captain the 2010 squad, was one of the top three runners for Colby a year ago.
