HARTFORD, Conn. --- Despite three goals from Colby College co-captain Dan Nelson and three assists from Scott Harff, the Trinity College men's hockey team had three power play goals on the way to a 7-4 victory in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.
The Mules drop to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in the conference, while Trinity moves to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Nelson had two shorthanded goals and kept the Mules in the game. He had the lone goal for Colby at 16:39 of the opening perioid off assists from Scott Harff and Mike Doherty as Trinity took a 2-1 lead at the break.
The Bantams went up 4-1 with two goals in the opening 8:20 of play in the second period, but the Mules bounced back with an unassisted tally by Mike Doherty at 13:16 and then a Nelson shorthanded goal at 16:18 from Nick Lanza and Harff. Trinity went up 5-3 on its power play goal at 17:57 of the second period.
Nelson once again cut into the lead at 6:57 of the third period with his second shorthanded goal. Lanza and Harff again assisted on the play.
Jeffrey Menard scored his second goal of the game on a power play at 15:51 and Chris Menard added his second goal with three minutes remaining with another power play for the final goals.
