WATERVILLE, Maine --- After taking about 10 days off between games, the Colby College men's hockey team received two goals from Mike Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) in taking a 5-2 non-conference victory over University of New England on Tuesday night at Alfond Rink.
The Mules move to 4-13 overall, while UNE falls to 3-13-2.
Doherty scored his 34th and 35th career goals and now has 87 points in his four years with the Mules. He scored at 4:47 of the first period for a 1-0 lead and at 7:36 of the second period to give the Mules a 3-0 margin. Ben Chwick (Purchase, N.Y.) gave Colby a 2-0 lead after one period with a goal at 17:07.
Nils Martin (Potomac, Md.) scored his first collegiate goal at 13:36 of the second period, while Cory McGrath (Yarmouthport, Mass.) scored the Mules' final goal in a shorthanded situation at 16:42 of the second for a 5-0 margin.
UNE's John Tuell (Orono, Maine) put his team on the scoreboard at 7:09 of the third period and teammate Adam Laite (Howie Center, Nova Scotia) had the final score of the game on the power play at 9:52.
Matt Delaney (Houston, Texas) stopped 32 shots in net for Colby.
