CLINTON, N.Y. --- Senior co-captain Cory McGrath played a part in all three Colby College goals in a 6-3 setback at Hamilton College on Friday in NESCAC men's hockey.
The Mules fall to 3-8 overall and 1-6 in league play, while Hamilton moves to 3-5-2 and 2-4-1 in the conference. Colby is at Amherst College for a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
Colby was in the contest for much of the game. After Evan Haney scored just 1:18 into the contest for Hamilton, Colby settled down and made it 1-1 at the first intermission when Ben Chwick scored his second goal in two games off assists from McGrath and Lanza with 35 seconds left.
The two teams combined for six goals in a wild second period. Dom Jancaterino tallied at 58 seconds of the period and then scored again at 3:33 for a 3-1 margin.
McGrath scored just 13 seconds later from Evan O'Brien and Scott Harff to close the gap to 3-2. Hamilton answered back when Marko Brelih made it 4-2 at 5:11 of the period. Chwick scored his second goal of the game at 14:56 from McGrath and Lanza, but Robbie Gardiner tallied for Hamilton about three minutes later for a 5-3 margin at the break.
Neither team could manage a goal in the final period until Hamilton had an empty net score from Anthony Ruberto with 1:35 to play.
Colby had a 38-29 shot advantage, with Joe Quattrocchi making 35 stops for the Continentals. Sam Parker had 23 saves for the Mules.
