CLINTON, N.Y. --- The Colby College men's hockey team made the long trip to Hamilton College in New York for Friday night's game and the weekend started off well with a 4-2 win over the Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference play.
The Mules have won two straight games in moving to 5-13 overall and 2-11 in the NESCAC. Colby will play at fifth-ranked Amherst College on Saturday at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, Hamilton falls to 7-10-2 overall and 3-9-1 in the conference. The Continentals are 0-5-1 in their last six games.
Matt Delaney made 36 saves in goal for Colby and Nils Martin scored his second goal in as many games for the big road win. Mike Doherty, Spike Smigelski, and Dan Nelson also had goals for the Mules.
The teams traded goals in the first period, with Hamilton's Michael DiMare scoring just 3:33 into the game on the power play. Mike Doherty evened it at 1-1 with his 10th goal of the season from Nick Lanza. DiMare made it 2-1 at 15:11, but Spike Smigelski again answered for Colby with a power play goal at 18:18 from Nick Trepp and Jack Bartlett.
Martin scored with just 1:42 left in the second period for the game-winning goal from Robert McCormick and Tommy Kader. Dan Nelson added a power play goal at 8:11 of the third period from Doherty and Cory McGrath.
