GORHAM, Maine --- After working most of the game to tie the contest at 2-2, the Colby College men's hockey team gave up an overtime goal with just 14.7 seconds left to fall 3-2 to University of Southern Maine on Tuesday night. The Mules fall to 0-3 overall and will play Suffolk University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bowdoin College. Southern Maine built a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by sophomore Sam Guimond and junior Troy Thibodeau. Guimond scored from in close, converting an assist from junior Mike Greene at 8:23. Thibodeau finished off a nice set up from Seward and Miller at 9:41. Colby cut the margin in half in the middle period as junior Jack Bartlett scored his first goal of the season from the right wing circle at 4:25. Sophomore Ray Zeek and junior Ben Chwick picked up the assists on the play. Senior Cory McGrath drew the Mules level at 9:00 of the third period when he intercepted a poor clearing attempt in the USM defensive zone and fired the puck into the open net for his first goal. USM first-year goalie Josh Hillegas recorded 22 saves to pick up his fourth win in five decisions. Nathan stopped 26 shots for Colby.
