BABSON PARK, Mass. --- Ian Deveau, John Grimaldi, and Garth Franklin all had two goals as the Colby College men's lacrosse team scored three of the first four goals of the second half to pull away for an 8-6 non-conference victory over Babson College on Thursday.

The Mules, ranked 10th in New England, improve to 4-2 overall and will meet Connecticut College on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Bill Alfond Field. The Camels are ranked fourth in New England.

Deveau finished with two goals and two assists after missing Tuesday's win over St. Joseph's College. Greg McKillop and Chip Grossman both had one goal and two assists, while Brendan McNeill added one assist.

Babson, which dropped to 3-4 overall, had six different players score goals. The Beavers had a 34-30 edge in shots and won the face-off battle by taking 9-of-16. However, the Mules went 3-for-8 with the extra man to Babson's 1-for-5.

Colby goalie Peter Reiley also made 11 saves in net to finish with more stops than Babson keeper James Whalen (8 saves). Reilly also finished with four ground balls and no turnovers.

Colby first-year defender Kenny Jacobson had three caused turnovers and six ground balls, while Buddy Reed also had three caused turnovers and scooped a pair of ground balls. Bjorn Knutson added eight ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers and Eric Eberhart had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

After taking a 5-3 margin at halftime, Grimaldi scored about 2:30 into the third quarter off a pass from McKillop. The Beavers countered with a goal just 1:15 later off the stick of Spencer Low, but Colby scored two straight goals in a span of 13 seconds. Grossman tallied from McKillop on the man-up with 9:30 left in the third quarter and McKillop followed with another goal from a pass by Deveau for an 8-4 margin with 9:17 left.

The Beavers did battle back to cut the lead to 8-6 when Brendan Coan scored unassisted with 5:40 to play and Mike Griffin added a score with 2:16 to play.

Deveau had both of his goals, with one of them on the man-up, in the first quarter to help give the Mules a 3-2 lead. Franklin scored from Grossman for a 4-2 margin and Grimaldi made it a three-goal game with a man-up score.
