Men's lacrosse falls in tough four OT game

NEW LONDON, Conn. --- After 72 minutes, 36 seconds of play, Connecticut College scored in the fourth overtime session in an 8-7 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse on Saturday.
 
The Mules fall to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the NESCAC, while Conn College is 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the league.
 
Tyler Corcoran scored unassisted at 36 seconds of the fourth overtime session for the Camels. The men play sudden-death overtime sessions and periods are four minutes long.
 
Peter Reiley stopped 13 shots for the Mules and was credited with six ground balls, while Conn College keeper Rob Moccia made 10 stops. Both goalies had two stops in the overtime sessions.
 
The Mules led 7-5 after three quarters, but did not score another goal the rest of the way. Colby has been outscored 14-6 by the opponent in the fourth quarter this season.
 
JR Hartgers scored two unassisted goals in the fourth quarter for the Camels. He cut the Mule lead to 7-6 with 8:08 to play and then tied the game with just 24 seconds left in regulation.
 
The Mules led 3-1 after the first quarter, with three straight tallies after the Camels had gone up 1-0. Colby defender Peter Willauer scored his first collegiate goal and then Greg McKillop assisted on goals by Ian Deveau and Jonathan McIvor.
 
After the Camels scored the first two goals of the second quarter to tie it at 3-3, Jed Rooney tallied for Colby off a pass from Garth Franklin with 7:06 to intermission. McKillop scored unassisted with 4:21 left, but Corcoran scored with only 18 seconds left to halftime to make it a 5-4 Mule lead.
 
John Jennings and Deveau had goals in the third quarter for the Mules. Hartgers scored the first of his three goals for the Camels.
 
Bjorn Knutson was 13-for-22 in face-off chances and added nine ground balls for Colby.
