GORHAM, Maine --- After two draining wins over the weekend in league play, the Colby College men's lacrosse team had it a bit easier Wednesday with a 20-5 non-conference victory over University of Southern Maine.

The Mules have won four straight games and stand at 6-3 overall heading into Saturday's game at Williams College at 1 p.m. Colby is ranked sixth in the latest New England Region poll.

Colby and USM (3-7) were tied 1-1 after five minutes of play. Ian Deveau (Portsmouth, R.I.), the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week for last week, scored just 1:33 into the contest. However, the Huskies tied the game about two minutes later on an unassisted goal by Burleigh Desjardins.

Colby scored the next 14 goals to turn the contest into a rout. The Mules led 4-1 after one quarter and 12-1 at halftime.

John Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) had four goals, while Deveau, Derek Youngman (Cohasset, Mass.), Garth Franklin (Fayetteville, N.Y.), and Greg McKillop (Washington, D.C.) each had two goals and one assist. Scott Margolis (New York, N.Y.) added one goal and one assist for the winners. The Mules also received goals from Chris Barrand (Beverly, Mass.), Chip Grossman (Charlottesville, Va.), Keith Fairbrother (Madison, N.J.), Bjorn Knutson (Bloomington, Minn.), Trevor Shorb (Lincoln, Mass.), Peter Willauer (Duxbury, Mass.), and Whit W. Harwood, Jr. (Short Hills, N.J.), who had his first collegiate goal.

Knutson also had eight ground balls, two caused turnovers, and was 6-for-10 in face-off chances. Shorb and Jonathan Eichholtz (Melville, N.Y.) were both 5-for-8 in face-off opportunites for the Mules. Spike Smigelski (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Christian Kelso (Summit, N.J.) both had three ground balls.

Colby's Tyler Will (Woodbury, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate victory in goal with five saves in three quarters of play. Tyler Cash (Middleton, Mass.) played the final quarter and stopped two shots.
