WATERVILLE, Maine --- Ian Deveau (Portsmouth, R.I.) finished with five goals and one assist as Colby College scored nine goals in the middle two periods on the way to a 15-7 non-conference win against University of New England on Tuesday at Bill Alfond Field.
The Mules (3-3 overall) moved to 21-3 at Bill Alfond Field the past four seasons, with all three losses by one goal. Colby will play host to 15th-ranked Wesleyan University on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will entertain 19th-ranked Trinity College at 1 p.m. Sunday.
UNE (6-6 overall) had leads of 2-1 and 3-2 in the first quarter before Colby scored three straight goals to take a 5-3 margin after 15 minutes. The Mules scored two more goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter to pull out to a 7-3 lead. Both teams scored twice to make the score 9-5 at halftime.
The Mules scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to pull away for good.
Jonathan McIvor (Sudbury, Mass.) added two goals and one assist for Colby. Garth Franklin (Fayetteville, N.Y.) also had two goals while the Mules received single goals from John Jennings (Danvers, Mass.), Keith Fairbrother (Madison, N.J.), James Wyse (Newton, Mass.), Scott Margolis (New York, N.Y.), Chip Grossman (Charlottesville, Va.), and Ian Boldt (Millburn, N.J.). Grossman, a first-year attacker, had his first collegiate goal, while Boldt finished with four ground balls.
Colby's Bjorn Knutson (Bloomington, Minn.) had a fine day with face-offs, winning 14-of-19 and scooping up eight ground balls. Christian Kelso (Summit, N.J.) had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Peter Reiley (Marblehead, Mass.) played about 42 minutes in net for the Mules and made six stops. Tyler Will (Woodbury, N.Y.) also had six saves in 16 minutes and Tyler Cash (Middleton, Mass.) made one stop in about two minutes of action.
Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) led UNE with two goals and one assist. Eddie Burke (Windsor, Conn.), Geoff Bruno (Durham, Conn.), and Mike Pennacchio (Peabody, Mass.) all had one goal and one assist. Dylan Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) added a pair of assists, George Jenkins (Natick, Mass.) had one goal and two caused turnovers, and Matt Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with one goal.
Dan O'Gorman (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) had 10 ground balls and won nine face-offs for UNE.
