Men's lacrosse player Deveau earns honor

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College junior midfielder Ian Deveau (Moses Brown/Portsmouth, R.I.), who had 10 goals and seven assists in a 3-0 week for the Mules, was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday.
Deveau went over 100 career points during the week and helped the Mules to two NESCAC victories over schools ranked in the national top 20.
Deveau had a part in six of Colby's nine goals, with three goals and three assists, in a 9-7 win against 19th-ranked Trinity College on Sunday at Bill Alfond Field. In Saturday's home game against 15th-ranked Wesleyan University, he had two goals and three assists in an 11-5 victory. Deveau started the week with five goals and one assist in a 15-7 victory at home over University of New England.
With Colby leading 3-2 after one quarter against Trinity, the Mules went on a 4-0 scoring run behind two straight goals from Deveau and then two assists from him on goals by teammate John Jennings. In the game against Wesleyan, Colby held a 5-1 lead after one quarter only to see Wesleyan cut the margin to 6-4 midway through the third quarter. Deveau had an assist on the Mules' seventh goal and then scored to make it 8-4 after three quarters. In the UNE game, the Mules led 9-5 at halftime, but Deveau scored two of Colby's three straight goals to start the second half to put the game away.
Deveau went over 100 career points, 50 goals, and 50 assists during the week. He has career totals of 112 points on 57 goals and 55 assists heading into Wednesday's 4 p.m. non-conference game at University of Southern Maine. Deveau leads the Mules this season in scoring with 19 goals and nine assists for 28 points.
Deveau led the Mules in scoring last year with 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points and earned All-NESCAC second team honors. He was honored in 2010 as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year.
