WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College men's soccer coach Mark Serdjenian won his 250th career game and the Mules scored three goals in the second half to pull away for a 4-0 non-conference victory over University of Southern Maine on Wednesday.
Serdjenian, a 1973 Colby graduate, has a 250-207-43 record in 36 seasons with the Mules.
Colby improves to 4-2 overall, while Southern Maine falls to 2-7.
The Mules had an 18-0 shot advantage in the first half only to lead 1-0 on a goal by Eric Barthold (Lyme, N.H.), who one-timed a shot from in front off a nice centering pass from Andrew Woonton (Boxford, Mass.) at 37:44.
Colby had three players score their first collegiate goals in the second half. Chris Pratt (Wellesley, Mass.) headed in a cross from Matt Boyes-Watson (Cambridge, Mass.) on a play that started off a corner kick at 57:41.
Barthold set up the third goal when his long pass turned into a 50-50 ball with USM goalkeeper Ian Dollen-Oliveto (Omaha, Neb.) and Colby's Charlie Dupee (Portland, Maine). The two reached the ball at the same time, but Dupee managed to get past Dollen-Oliveto and tap the ball into the goal.
Jake Luckach (Easton, Conn.) had the shot of the day on Colby's fourth goal. He turned on a shot from about 20 yards out and ripped the ball into the upper left corner of the net with 7:35 to play.
Ben Joslin (Chicago, Ill.) made two saves in 61:30 for the Mules and Cody Funkhouser (Hopewell, N.J.) made one save the rest of the way to share the shutout.
Jeremy Turner (Portland, Maine) made seven saves in the first half for Southern Maine and allowed just the one goal. Alex Charette (Fort Kent, Maine) and Dollen-Oliveto combined for six stops in the second half.
