Men's soccer finally loses an OT battle with Panthers

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Middlebury College and Colby College men's soccer teams made it four straight years with an overtime game, but this time the Panthers came out on top in a 1-0 NESCAC victory on Saturday.
 
Colby (0-2-1 overall, 0-1-1 NESCAC) won 1-0 in overtime last year at Middlebury and took a 2-1 win in an extra session at home two years ago. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in 2009.
 
Middlebury's Alvand Hajzadeh (Williamstown, Mass.) scored just 39 seconds into overtime on a header. Rob Cole (South Burlington, Vt.), who had an assist on the play, hit a shot off the crossbar and Hajzadeh was in the right position for the header
 
Middlebury (2-1 overall, 1-1 NESCAC) had an 11-6 advantage in shots and both teams had three corner kicks.
 
Zach Abdu-Glass (Lexington, Mass.) made one save in earning the shutout, while Colby's Cody Funkhouser (Hopewell, N.J.) also stopped one shot for the Mules.
 
The Panthers head to Plymouth State for a 2 p.m. non-conference game Sunday. Colby is off until an away game against Tufts University next Saturday at 3 p.m.
