Funkhouser earns first shutout in 0-0 tie

NEW LONDON, Conn. --- Colby College sophomore Cody Funkhouser (Hopewell, N.J.) earned his first collegiate shutout in helping the Mules to a 0-0 season-opening overtime tie with Connecticut College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday.
The Camels pressured early and often with 17 shots in the contest, Funkhouser stopped six shots and Colby's defense held strong. Camel junior keeper Casey Marini stopped two shots.
Both teams had opportunities to win the game in the final minute of the second overtime. Connecticut College sophomore Doug Garabedian made a game-saving clear near the end line to avoid a Colby golden goal.
On the ensuing possession, Kevin O’Brien snapped a high-rising shot from 15 yards away that Funkhouser was able to make the save on to secure the scoreless tie.
The Camels had a 17-4 margin in shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
