Men's squash beats Tufts at national tourney

NEW HAVEN, Conn. --- Will Hochman won a key match at the third position and Stephen Carroll came back to win the fifth spot match for the 25th-ranked Colby College men's squash team in a 6-3 win over 32nd-ranked Tufts University at the National Team Championships on Friday.

Colby, which is playing in the Conroy Division (teams ranked 25-32), will take on 29th-ranked Georgetown University on Saturday at noon in a semifinal match. Georgetown took a 9-0 win against Haverford College in its match.

Hochman won the first two games (11-6, 15-13) against Jeremy Ho, but then fell in tight 15-13 and 11-9 games in the third and fourth games. Hochman settled down and won 11-5 in the deciding  fifth game.

Meanwhile, Carroll lost a tough 13-11 opening game to Gordon Silverman at five. He had it easier in the next three games, taking 11-4, 11-4, and 11-6 wins.

Yuga Koda had a convincing 3-0 win at the fourth spot for the Mules. Pete Gabranski, Gregory Ho, and Arjumand Masood also had 3-0 victories for the winners.
