LEWISTON, Maine --- Colby College's Jason Ottomano advanced to quarterfinal round play in both 'A" singles and doubles at the Wallach Men's Tennis Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Bates College.
Ottomano and Luke Martin combined for an 8-6 win over a Skidmore College doubles team in the opening round and then fell 8-4 to the eventual champions from Bates in the quarterfinals. Ottomano took a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-6 (pro-set) win over second-seeded Jay Glickman of Tufts University in 'A' singles. He then fell 6-2, 6-4 to Ned Mandell of Trinity in a quarterfinal match.
In 'B' doubles play, Matt Mantikas and Sam Bachelder won 9-8 over a team from Middlebury College in the opening round. The Colby pair then fell 8-4 to a Bates duo in the quarterfinals. Bachelder also played 'A' singles and fell 6-1, 6-3 to fourth-seeded Casey Grindon of Bowdoin College in the first round. Meanwhile, Mantikas dropped a tough 3-6, 7-6 (4), 13-11 (pro-set) opening round 'C" singles match to Cosmin Bardan of Bates.
Martin won 6-1, 6-4 over Matthew Zuckerman of Brandeis University in the 'D' flight singles before falling 6-3, 6-1 to second-seeded Luke Trinka of Bowdoin.
