MEDFORD, Mass. --- Sam Bachelder and Matthew Mantikas each won single matches for the Colby College men's tennis team in a tight 6-3 loss to Tufts University on Sunday.
Colby closes out the season at 12-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference, while the Jumbos also are 3-5 in the league and 10-9 overall.
Bachelder, who was playing the fifth spot Sunday, finished the year with a 15-3 record while mostly playing at four. Mantikas won at the sixth singles position and finished the year 10-4 in singles play.
Robert Yee and Luke Martin won the other match for Colby, taking an 8-6 win at second doubles. Yee played with Bachelder and Martin in doubles play this year and went 11-6.
The match could have easily gone Colby's way, but Tufts came up with the close wins. Bachelder and Jack Bryant dropped a tough 9-8 (2) match at the third doubles spot, while Jason Ottomano went to a pro-set to decide his match and fell at second singles.
