White, Hale win events for men's indoor track

GORHAM, Maine --- Matt White won the 400-meter dash and teammate Jeff Hale was a winner in the 3,000 meters for the Colby College men's indoor track and field team in a non-scoring meet at University of Southern Maine on Saturday.

White clocked a 52.25 to hold off teammate Caleb Harris (53.66) in the 400 meters. In a field of 10 runners, Hale coasted to nearly a 10-second margin over the runner-up in a time of 9:14.87 over 3,000 meters.

Colby throws coach Matt Harmon gave senior John Gilboy some competition in the shot put and weight throw. Harmon, a Southern Maine graduate, won the shot put (13.38 meters) and the weight throw (14.71 meters). Gilboy was first among collegiate throwers and second overall in the shot (13.24 meters) and placed third overall and second against collegiate competitors in the weight throw (13.42).

Will Hayes added a fourth in the 600 meters in 1:31.0, while Kevin Clarke had the same placing in the 1,000 meters (2:40.45). Jamaal Grant took fifth in the 55 dash (7.02 final, 6.70 prelim). Grant teamed up with White, Harris, and Will Simmons to take second place in the 800 relay (1:36.60).
