Kone, Druskat fast at State of Maine meet

GORHAM, Maine --- Dom Kone, Colby College's two-time national champion and All-American, had his season debut on Saturday night, but teammate Ethan Druskat showed he can sprint as well at the State of Maine Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Maine.
Kone had the fastest time in preliminary 55-meter races at 6.58, but did not run in the championship final. Meanwhile, Druskat was just behind Kone in the prelims at 6.59 and then was faster in winning a state title in his first year with a 6.57. Druskat also finished in fifth place in the 200 dash at 23.45.
Justin Owumi took second place for the Mules in the triple jump (42-2.25) and had a fifth in the 55 hurdles (8.15). Colby thrower John Gilboy was third in the weight throw (47-9.75) and fourth in the shot put (46-8.75). Harry Geldermann added a third in the pole vault (13-7.25), Jamaal Grant finished fourth in the long jump (21-1.25), as did Charlie Coffman in the mile run (4:23.06). Jeff Hale placed fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:53.90) and Chris Greenlee added a sixth in the 1,000 meters (2:35.46).
Colby placed fourth out of five teams with 59 points. Bates was first with 207, Bowdoin took second at 139, Southern Maine had 123 points, and St. Joseph's was last with 24.
