WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College men's track and field athlete Dom Kone (Bucksport, Maine) earned three honors and first-year teammates Caleb Harris (Canaan, N.H.), Andrew Martinez (Menlo Park, Calif.), and Brett Sahlberg (Duxbury, Mass.) all were honored once for all-conference by the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Wednesday.
Kone, Colby's junior national champion in the 60-meter dash during the indoor season, won the 100 dash and the 200 dash at last Saturday's conference meet at Bates College. The top three in each event earn All-NESCAC honors. Kone broke his own school record with a time of 10.56 in winning the 100 dash at the NESCAC meet for the third straight year. He ran a 10.86 to win the event last year and was at 11.03 during his first year.
Kone won the 200 dash for the first time with a 21.70 clocking. He did not race in the event last year and finished third in 22.71 during his first year at Colby.
With the youngest team of the 10 competing, Colby's foursome of Sahlberg, Kone, Harris, and Martinez finished in third place in the 400 relay with a time of 43.23. Middlebury won the race in 43.12 and Bowdoin was second in 43.13. Kone ran with three other sprinters in last year's NESCAC meet and had a winning time of 43.34
