Alpine teams have best finishes of season

STOWE, Vt. --- Colby College's alpine ski teams had their best finishes of the season as the men took fourth and the women were fifth in the giant slalom at the University of Vermont Ski Carnival at Stowe on Friday.

The Colby men had their best finish in two years by placing fourth with 71 points, just four points behind the 75 of both Middlebury and Williams. Meanwhile, the women scored 54 points in taking fifth to hold off Bates (53) and Williams (51).

Vincent Lebrun-Fortin had runs of 57.70 and 56.42 for a two-run total time of 1:54.12 in taking sixth place for the Colby men. Lebrun-Fortin had the third-best opening run. Jody Centuaro took 10th place in 1:55.33 (59.23, 56.10) and Sam Witherspoon was 17th in 1:56.37 (59.84, 56.53) for the men's team.

Emily Colin placed 13th for the Colby women with runs of 1:02.92 and 1:00.05 for a time of 2:02.97. Dana Breakstone was 18th in 2:05.84.
