MEDFORD, Mass. --- The Colby College baseball team held an 8-4 lead at one point only to see Tufts University battle from behind for a 10-8 victory in NESCAC East Division play Saturday.

The Mules fall to 9-6 overall and 0-4 in the league, whiles Tufts moves to 13-3 and 3-1 in the conference. The two teams will play a noon doubleheader Sunday. Colby had its six-game winning streak snapped with the loss.

The Mules had an 8-4 lead in the game thanks to a five-run fifth inning. In that frame, senior co-captain Ryan Conlon (Ridgefield, Conn.) singled home a run and scored, sophomore 3B Mike Mastrocola (Soutbury, Conn.) doubled home a run and scored, and senior 2B John LaMantia (Gates Mills, Ohio) had an RBI single and scored.

Tufts battled back to 8-7 with three runs in the sixth. Junior 2B Frank Petroskey (Dallas, Texas)struck the big blow with a two-run single.

After Tufts junior reliever Ed Bernstein (Foxborough, Mass.)came on and got the Jumbos out of a jam in the top of the eighth, Colby pitchers hit four Jumbo batters with pitches and walked two others during the bottom of the eighth. Junior LFIan Goldberg (Lake Forest, Ill.)was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run, and sophomore 3B Sam Sager (Cranston, R.I.)worked a walk to bring in the game-winning ninth run.

Colby out-hit the Jumbos 16-10. Conlon was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run, Mastrocola went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run, sophomore SS Brandon Nieuw (Port Chester, N.Y.) finished 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and senior LF Ken Kaufman (Lexington, Mass.) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
