Early innings hurt baseball in loss to USM

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Despite a home run by John LaMantia, the Colby College baseball team lost 16-9 to University of Southern Maine as Anthony D'Alfonso (Westbrook, Maine) and Chris Burleson (Portland, Maine) each homered Wednesday in a 16-9 victory.

D'Alfonso had four hits, five RBI and scored three runs. He belted a three-run homer in the first inning for USM (17-7). Burleson had three hits, three runs, and five RBI.

LaMantia (Gates Mills, Ohio) had three hits, including a two-run home run for Colby (10-10). Spencer Jacobson (Newton, Mass.), Richard Newton (Arlington, Mass.), and Ken Kaufman (Lexington, Mass.) all had two hits and two runs for the Mules.
