HARTFORD, Conn. --- The Colby College baseball team had a 2-0 lead after four innings against the defending national champions and the current seventh-ranked team in the country, but Trinity College scored 11 runs over the next four innings to pull out an 11-2 victory in NESCAC East play Friday.
Colby starter Matt Moore kept the Bantams (19-3, 10-0 NESCAC) at bay for four innings while working into the eighth inning. He allowed just four earned runs and struck out three.
The Mules got the two runs in the second inning after John Lerner scored on an infield single and Richard Newton crossed the plate after a Trinity error.
Lerner and Richard Newton each had one hit and one run for Colby. Kyle McKay, Dom Morrill, and Ken Kaufman had the other hits for Colby.
Trinity only led 5-2 after seven innings, but pulled away with six runs in the eighth inning.
The two teams will meet in a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. (new time start).
