LEWISTON, Maine --- Colin Riggs hit two home runs and Kyle McKay also went deep as the Colby College baseball team had 18 hits on the way to an 11-6 win over Bates College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division game Friday.
Colby (11-10, 1-5 NESCAC East) and Bates (5-15, 1-6 NESCAC East) will play a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Colby's Coombs Field. Riggs, who scored four runs and drove in four more, was one of four Mules who went 3-5 at the plate, along with John LaMantia, McKay, and Nick Spillane. McKay and Riggs both hit homers in the sixth inning off of Bates reliever Ralph Vitti for a 7-2 lead the Mules didn't relinquish. Riggs also had a two-out solo homer in the third inning. Spillane drove in four runs for the Mules. Craig Cooper went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Sam Kennedy-Smith pitched into the sixth inning to earn the win for the Mules. Ryan Murphy worked two innings and Bobby Whelan got the final five outs.
