WATERVILLE, Maine --- RT Tourek pitched nearly seven innings of relief to earn the victory and Ken Kaufman scored three runs and had a pair of hits as the Colby College baseball team took a 10-5 win over local rival Thomas College in non-conference play on Monday.
Tourek entered the game with one out in the second inning and allowed just one earned run before Ryan Murphy took over to start the ninth inning.
Kaufman, who has played his way into a starting position, led off for Colby and did his job by getting on base three times. Richard Newton and Dom Morrill each had a pair of hits and scored two runs for the Mules (13-11). Colin Riggs and Spencer Jacobson both had two hits and one run scored, while John Lerner had one hit, a sacrifice bunt, two walks, and one run scored.
Kaufman scored on a bases loaded walk to Lerner in the first inning and then scored again along with Morrill in the second inning on a two-run single by Colin Riggs.
With the scored tied 3-3 after two innings, Morrill put the Mules ahead to stay with a single to score Lerner in the third inning. Jacobson had an RBI double and Michael Cuqua smacked an RBI single to give Colby two more runs in the fourth inning. The Mules scored four runs in the fifth inning to put the game away thanks to RBI singles by Kaufman, Newton, and Riggs.
Thomas Desjardins, Jared Fieldsend, and Cory Estes all had two hits for Thomas (9-13). Michael Chamard had three RBI for the Terriers.
Colby plays host to University of Maine at Farmington in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
