BRUNSWICK, Maine --- Richard Newton had two of Colby College's three hits in the game to raise his team-leading batting average to .396, but the Mules fell 12-1 at Bowdoin College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference baseball game Friday.
The Mules (10-16 overall, 0-7 NESCAC) and Bowdoin (18-7, 6-1 NESCAC) will play a doubleheader at Colby starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. The first game was scheduled for a noon start, but the forecast for rain on Saturday has made officials change the time twice.
Brett Gorman had three home runs, a double, a walk, scored five runs, and had six RBI for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin led 3-0 after three innings, scored twice in the fourth, and added three more runs in the fifth to pull away.
Colby scored its lone run in the seventh inning when Taro Gold was hit by a pitch and Mike Mastrocola walked. Colin Cummings reached on a fielder's choice when Mastrocola was out at second base, but Gold was able to score from second on a shortstop error.
